Air Asia Misses the runway. Air Asia B737 hit the mud about 100m short of runway 02 at Miri (WBGM) on Wednesday evening (05 Nov 03). They took several approach lights with them before bouncing back into the Air and landing on the runway. Pax very upset and I believe unaware of exactly what happened. Both Engines damaged through ingestion of approach lights. Left one had 37 blades severely damaged or missing. Underbody of aircraft had impact marks from Approach Lighting. It was the one painted up as Malaysian Flag 9M-AAI (their second newest aircraft). Weather was ok, light winds, and passing light showers. Before the land-short at Miri, one other (9M-AAJ - their newest aircraft) blew tyres the day before (04 Nov 03) landing at Alor Setar.
