Yucatan Gulfstream2 Drug Smuggler Downed

According to several Mexican newspapers, G-II reg. N987SA was forced down this morning (25 Sep 07) in Yucatan, Mexico, about 20 nm from MID. Registered to a company in Fort Lauderdale

It has been reported the plane was carrying 3.2 tons of cocaine. Mexican Air Force EMB-145MP detected the G-II coming from the south (reportedly from Colombia).

A few weeks ago, a BAC-1-11 (XB-KCE) landed in Cancun due to an "emergency" (flightplan was from Venezuela to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico). At the far end of the runway the airplane shut off their lights, opened the door and dumped some cargo. Somebody noticed it and the police went to the end of the rwy. At the time, some pick up trucks had already left the airport's perimeter with the cargo. Pilots were arrested and the a/c secured. Traces of drugs were found on board.

An EMB145MP returned to MID. The ATC requested information and pilot in the EMB said:

- The G-II was coming from Colombia to Cancun.
- It was intercepted by the Mexican Air Force near Cancun (no information reg. the intercepting aircraft, probably a PC-7/Tucano)
- The plane tried to land in the jungle (possible a clandestine runway) but had to make a go around.
- On a second attempt the plane went down. Possibly it ran out of fuel because there was no fire (pictures confirm this).
- At the time of this communication the Mexican Army and Air Force had not found the crash site.

  MagniCharter 737 Accident
XA-MAC Accident to XA-MAC of magniCharters, a 737-2C3 at Guadalajara, Mexico (Guadalajara - Miguel Hidalgo Y Costilla Internacional (GDL/MMGL)) on 21 Sep 07
  - Incident occurred on landing during the evening. GDL had to be closed.
- Flights to GDL had to land either in PVR (Puerto Vallarta) or AGU (Aguascallientes) (not sure why, but there was a reason why BJX (Leon/El Bajio - Gianajuato International A/P) could not be used as an alternate).
- When the press learned about the accident, they wanted to gain access to the tarmac and even to the area where the plane was. This is something they always want to do whenever an incident occurs. Obviously, police prevented this from happening, hence the initial reaction by the press.
- Passengers were sent to an hotel so investigating authorities could gather their testimonies. The main idea was to have the most impartial testimony by preventing passengers from listening to biased press reports/rumors.
- The plane was towed to Magnicharter's hangar for repairs. because it is hard to see the plane from the non-airside portion of the airport or even from outside the airport's boundaries, now the press claims that the company is trying to hide something.
